Custom-printed t shirts and hoodies are sometimes quoted as 'unisex' and sometimes as 'men's' sizes. What does this mean?
Nothing. There’s no difference. There you have it. But, why?
At some point, some manufacturers starting calling their sizes unisex for a variety of apocryphal reasons. Calling a product size “unisex” broadened the appeal and extended an effort to reduce redundant styles for both men and women. Another factor, supposedly, is that for the American market, anyway, both men and women have become stouter over the past several decades and the more fitted women’s style creates fitting concerns for women. So, what would be a large in a women’s size would be roughly a medium in a “unisex” size. both enhancing and eliminating confusion.
Our female clients mostly refer to unisex sizes in their orders. We always warn that if they are ordering women’s style and size that those products are definitely different than unisex sizes and that they should adjust their expectations accordingly. Most typical unisex tees have six inch sleeves. Women’s sleeves can vary a great deal, but even “standard” women’s tees are at least an inch shorter in the sleeve and fitted.
