There’s no doubt that merch makes fans happy and makes you money. You can maximize your merch sales any time of the year. Here are some easy tips:

Merch Promotion Checklist

  1. Provide variety – Your fans and followers love what you do and want a piece of that. Your merch should evolve and change to reflect that. Accordingly, plan to add at least one new design a month to your store.
  2. Offer limited editions – There’s nothing geekier to super fans than being able to grab exclusive, limited availability merch. So, this merch can have a special finish or unique design, such as metallic printing or luxe garments in special colors.
  3. Provide discount codes – Do you have Patreon members? Offer a special discount code in a post to say ‘thanks’ for their support. A supporter-only link for a ‘members-only’ product can be created for special rewards.
  4. Link your store – Fans can’t get to your merch if they don’t know it exists, certainly. Be persistent about adding cards to videos. Put merch store links in your descriptions, whether on YouTube or your podcast platform. Add product links to your merch shelf.
  5. Promote on social media – Instagram and Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) or other two-way platforms are great places to feature new merch (see item 1). This practice also adds to your post count. Also, if you have merch designs that are general interest, don’t be afraid to promote those products to a wide audience. And don’t forget about Pinterest – we see a surprising amount of traffic from pins there.
  6. Feature your merch on your website – If you have a website promoting what you’re up to (and you should), add a tab to link to your Altacolor-provided store.
